Mildred Morine Kelly Trefz died peacefully Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Morningstar Care Homes in Baldwin City, KS.

She was born February 18, 1926, in Sarcoxie, Missouri the daughter of William James., Sr. and Una Mae (Reeves) Kelly; she was the fifth of eight children. She was a graduate of Diamond High School, Diamond, Missouri and a 1940’s Business College graduate.

Mildred became a resident of Eudora in 1943. She was a federal employee for many years, and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Her final position was with the U.S. Geological Survey in Lawrence, Kansas. She also owned and operated the Dari Treat drive-in at Eudora in the early 1960s. She was a homemaker, devoted sister, wife, mother and mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt. She loved her Eudora Community and the Sarcoxie Prairie and was an official member of the Daniel O’Donnel Fan Club.

She married Fred (Freddie) Trefz on July 3, 1958, in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2000.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Staab and Judith Trefz and son, Fred (Tammie) Trefz, Jr. all of Eudora, KS; daughter, Patricia (Dan) Sherman of Sandpoint, Idaho; two grandsons, Hunter Trefz of Brunswick, Georgia and Weston Trefz of Eudora; and step-grandchildren, Amberle Sherman of Pennsylvania, PA, Elena Sherman of Kansas City, MO, Patrick (Vanessa) Sherman of Oakland, CA and Terence Sherman of Kirkland, WA; two sisters, Frances Olmstead of San Antonio, Texas, and Agnes (Jack) Borland of Farmerville, Louisiana; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael Keevan Kelly, Helen (Kelly Reid) Sommer, William Kelly, Jr., Joseph J. Kelly, and Mary Margaret (Kelly) Katzfey; and by granddaughter, Zoe Elaine Trefz.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary -Eudora Chapel. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary- Eudora Chapel, 1003 John L. Williams Dr. Eudora.

The family would like to give many thanks to caregivers at Morningstar Care Home, Midwest Hospice, Faith Hospice, Personal Home Care by Lori Smith and to the many family and friends for their support and loving care in the last months of Mildred’s life.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s name to NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) or to the Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain, 120 W. 13th street, Lawrence, KS 66044
