A graveside service for Mildred Myrtle Ragland-Turner, 96, Lawrence, KS, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Mrs. Turner died June 17, 2011 at her home.
She was born on May 27, 1915 in Dunlap, KS, the daughter of John (J.W.) Ragland Sr., and Rosetta Tennessee Harding-Ragland.
Mildred was a member of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., and renewed her Evangelist License under Bishop I.B. Brown and Bishop J.O. Patterson on July 14, 1983. While at the church, she served as an Usher and worked in other areas of the church. She later had church in her home for several years until her health failed her.
She was formerly employed for 18 years (1974-1992) of devoted service as a cook for Delta Upsilon Social Fraternity at Kansas University. She later retired from The University of Kansas. Mildred was a H.H.A. nurse, Home Maker and Home Health Aid, associate with the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care of Lawrence, and she had Conservatorship over her mother in her home for many years until she died. She was awards for her accomplishments.
She liked to make quilts and she loved gardening. She attended school at Valley Point School District #41 and other schooling to become a H.H.A. nurse.
Survivors include one son, Theron Eugene Ragland, Sr. (wife, Louise) of Independence, MO, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, a host of friends and relatives including Alfred Teddy DeYoung, of the home and her C.N.A. Carol Robinson.
The family will greet friends from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
