Montie R Greene

Montie R. Greene, 86, of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed on August 4, 2025. Montie was born March 19, 1939, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to parents, Donald Greene and Joy Meek Greene. As a child, Montie loved being outdoors. He played baseball and football with his friends and learned to play golf from his father.

Montie finished high school in Stillwater Public Schools and attended Oklahoma State University for one year. After marrying his first wife, Beverly, Montie enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

During his 28 years of military service, he earned the rank of Lieutenant and worked aboard several aircraft carriers in communications. Montie loved the Navy and was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal among many other honors. Montie retired from the Navy and taught Junior ROTC in high school at Ponca City, Oklahoma. When that program closed, Montie moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma. He attended University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma graduating with a BS degree in Elementary Education.

Montie married Janey Tilford on March 20, 1990, and the couple moved to Lawrence, Kansas to teach at Pinckney School in USD 497.

Survivors include Janey, her children and their families. Montie’s children, Greg, Kym, Ealish, Holly and their families.

Montie was preceded in death by both his parents, brother, Don, and sister, Lou Ann.
