A celebration of life for Mychael L. Mitchell, 67, of Lawrence, KS will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the mortuary. Mychael passed away on June 11, 2026, at his home. He was born February 25, 1959, in Lawrence, KS to Kenneth and Donna (Vann) Mitchell.
He was a proud Chesty Lion and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1978, where he was active in cross country, basketball and track & field. Mychael started his work life as a cook in multiple restaurants, including Tin Pan Alley, where he discovered his joy for the culinary arts. He spent the latter years of his career working at Hallmark Cards as a Forklift Operator.
Mychael was a true townie who was a friend to all and stranger to none. No matter where he went, he always knew someone and they always knew him. In his free time, he could be found on the golf course, watching movies, or reading a good book. He also loved watching sports and rooting for his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mychael was a man who was known to indulge in a fine cigar and a good glass of bourbon. He had a taste for great flavors and often shared his wonderful cooking with the people he cared most about. You didn’t want to challenge him to a spice test because he would undoubtedly put you to shame, often with his own secret recipe for homemade hot sauce. Mychael, known by loved ones as Mike, had a big personality and a heart to match. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his daughter, Chanelle McCluer, his mother, Donna Vann Mitchell, his sisters, Pamela (Isaiah) Lawson and Kimberly (Keith) Fowler, a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Mitchell and his brother, Derek Mitchell.
