ST. THERESE OF LISIEUSX’S LAST WORDS:

“I am not dying: I am entering into my life”

St. Therese was our mother’s patron saint, and she too has now entered into her life in the heavenly kingdom, surrounded by pure love. This brings our family great peace and joy.

Nancy Dean Boswell, was born on September 1, 1930 in San Diego, California, to Muriel Lyman Dean (Corkill) and Morris Hess Dean. In 1933, the family relocated to Topeka, Kansas, where Nancy attended school and graduated from Topeka High in 1948. She earned her associate degree in primary education from Washburn College and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.

Nancy taught sixth grade for a year before marrying Don Charles Welter on September 16, 1950. Together they raised three daughters: Cindy Ford (Jim), Debbie Toms (deceased) and Linda Craig. Nancy was the proud “Nana” to six grandchildren-Ashley Plantz (Travis), Molly Payne (Stephen), Casey Craig (Lauren), Spencer Craig (Jordan), Travis Toms, Jarrod Toms (deceased) and a loving great nana to eight great-grandkids. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Boswell.

Nancy later became a Licensed Practical Nurse and spent the majority her career in the service of others. She was actively involved in the Topeka Junior League, the Topeka African Violet Society, Topeka Garden Club and served as a Shawnee County Master Gardener. She was well known for her beautiful gardens and fish ponds, which attracted many species of birds that she loved watching and feeding. She also had a passion for crafting and was especially known for the beautiful handmade cards she created and her ancestry scrapbooks she complied to preserve our family history. Nancy had a fond love for animals and was especially devoted to her beloved cat Abby.

Nancy became Catholic in the early 80’s, a turning point that deepened her faith profoundly. She made three pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina where her faith took on a special meaning. During this time, she was privileged to participate in several private Marian apparitions and developed a strong devotion to Mary and the rosary. An avid traveler, Nancy was blessed with many meaningful and enriching experiences throughout her life.

A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial, will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center beginning at 9:30am on Thursday, January 8th. Interment following at the Grantville Cemetery in Grantville, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the Lawrence Humane Society or the St. Lawrence Catholic Center.
