Nathaniel Brown, Jr.

A Celebration of Life for Nathaniel L. Brown, Jr., “Nate”, 69, Lawrence will be held for family and friends at 1510 Harper Lawrence, KS on Saturday, March 6th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Nathaniel left this physical plane of existence on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Leavenworth Veterans Hospital.  He was born on July 16, 1940 in Kansas City, MO the son of Nathaniel L. Brown, Sr. and Catherine Hughes Brown.

After his graduation from Boystown in Omaha, NE in 1959 he served in both the Army and Air Force branches of the military.  His path of service did not end with the military, as he and his wife Jan spent 35 years dedicating their lives to help at risk children and teens with various childcare agencies and group homes in the Kansas City area, as well as The Shelter, Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas, and Visionquest in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Texas.

He married Janet Kleinschuster on February 2, 1970 in Kansas City, MO.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one daughter Brandi Shelagh Brown, Lawrence, KS; one sister Christine Holmes; three brothers, Gary T. Brown, Robert Brown, both of Kansas City, MO, Michael Brown, Las Vegas, Nevada; one Uncle Julius Hughes; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.   His father, and mother, and brother, Jose Alan Brown, preceded him in death.
