Funeral services for Norma Strickell Gienau, 90, Wellsville will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel, Eudora, KS. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery. She died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Norma was born October 4, 1923 in Webster County, IA the daughter of Earl C. and Olive A. (Derr) Harris.
She was a member of the Wellsville Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was in quality control at Kansas Color Press for 12 years until she retired in 1983. She previously worked at the ammunition plant in De Soto and Maupintour.
She married Arthur Strickell on July 31, 1949 in Brandon, IA. He preceded her in death March 1985. She then married Charles Gienau and he preceded her in death November 1, 1991.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rodney Strickell; and one grandchild; brothers, Neil, Eugene, and Kenneth Harris; and sisters, Collen McCarte, Alice Matt, and Arlene Gienau.
Survivors include daughter, Miriam Johnson, son, Earl Strickell and stepchildren Charles Gienau, Larry Gienau, Jeff Gienau, Dennis Gienau, Rick Gienau, Becky Gienau; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Harris; and one sister, Bonnie Walton.
The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8th at the Eudora Chapel.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Douglas County Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
