¬There are no formal services planned for Patricia H. Smith, 76, Lawrence. She died September 9, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born on May 6, 1934 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of John James and Hazel Blanche Harrison Riling.
She was a 1952 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, KS. She attended the University of Kansas for three years.
Mrs. Smith worked for the University of Kansas in the Department of Entomology. She also worked for McDonald Beverages. She later worked part-time for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed 17 years as a winter Texan where she put on shows, skits, and musicals for the resort. She played the piano for church and plays. She also loved Canadian fishing trips and loved music, crafts, golf, and dancing.
She belonged to Sweet Adelines, American Business Women’s Association. She was a member of and a past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary Branch 177. She also volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was married to Lester D. Smith on December 29, 1957 in Olathe, Kansas. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include, two sons, Steve Gillum, Lawrence, KS, and Jim, and wife, Debby Smith, Lawrence; one daughter, Deanna, and husband, John Dibble, Lawrence, KS; five grandchildren, Patricia Morris, Boise, ID, Marcie, and husband, Ted Wainright, Lawrence, Megan Smith, Lawrence, Dustin Gillum, Aron Gillum, both of CA; two great grandchildren, Bronson Cunningham, Lawrence, KS, Violet Bublitz, Boise, ID; She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John J. Riling, and Eugene C. Riling; a son, Scott D. Gillum; and granddaughter, Madison J. Smith.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of mortuary.
