Patricia J. Black, 89, formerly of Eudora, KS peacefully passed away Friday, April 5th at Hillside Village of DeSoto Skilled Nursing Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 12th from noon to 1:00 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Eudora Chapel, Eudora, KS, with funeral following. Private graveside services will be held later at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS.

She was born March 17, 1930 at her childhood home in rural Knox City, MO. She was the sixth of seven children born to parents, Serrel and Florence SeDonna Fountain.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora, KS with past membership at the Tonganoxie Christian Church. She was a past member of the Eudora Quilt Guild and PEO Chapter HS, Tonganoxie, KS.

She graduated from Knox City High School in 1948 and attended Western Union School in Springfield, MO. She worked in numerous clerical positions, including bank teller and payroll clerk. She assisted her husband in managing Tonganoxie Motor Freight for 13 years and owned and operated Zoellner’s Dry Goods Store for 10 years before her retirement.

She married Clifford W. Black in Kansas City on November 19, 1949 and they were married 47 years until his passing on July 23, 1997.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Serrel, Jr. and Walter Fountain, and one sister, Betty Warner.

Pat is survived by her two children, Serrel (Diane) Black, Overland Park, KS and Donna (Joe) Ketchum of Eudora, KS. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Jenny Lee, Julie Avila and Jacqueline Black and six great grandchildren, Luke and Mae Audus, and Alex, Haley, Lila and Titus Avila. She is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Anderson, Lakeland, Florida, Ezylene Snell, Canton, MO and JoAnn Arment, Goshen, Indiana.
Pat also leaves behind her dear friend, Bob Cawley, Eudora, KS and many life-long friends from both Eudora and Tonganoxie. Her friends and family were a real source of joy in her life. The family is especially appreciative of the loving care she received from Hillside Village staff, nurses and aids these past 10 months, as well as, the wonderful hospice nurses from the Douglas County Visiting Nurses.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Eudora First Southern Baptist Church or the Great Plains SPCA in Lenexa, KS, and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
