Patricia Perkins Timmons

d. January 21, 2018

Patricia Perkins Timmons, 88, died Sunday, January 21, 2018. A celebration and remembrance of her life will be held at Christ Community Church, Lawrence, KS at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 26. Her family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Pat was born March 16, 1929 to George Thomas Perkins and Elizabeth Nancy Perkins in Olathe, KS. After graduating from Olathe High School in 1967 she attended Kansas University, studying fine arts and interior design. Pat enjoyed a busy social life there including being a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Intramural swim, and the KU cheer team.

In 1950 Pat married Robert Leroy Timmons (Timmie). They would be married 65 years before his death in 2015.

While Bob coached high school teams in Caldwell, Emporia, and Wichita, Pat raised their four children: Tammie, Rebecca, Priscilla, and Dan. She was always busy with bridge clubs, Junior League, art projects, classes, and driving her children to sports and dance lessons. She cheered them on as well as the teams Bob coached.

Bob was hired at KU as an assistant track coach and became the head coach in 1966. Pat was his head cheerleader and developed her distinctive ‘hoot’ that could be heard easily in the stadium or any cross-country course. Her busy life continued with raising her children, more bridge clubs, Alpha Chi Omega luncheons, and her membership of the FZ chapter of PEO.

Both Pat and Bob made life long friends in high school, college, Caldwell, Emporia, Wichita, and Lawrence. They loved to get together with friends and family and were very generous with what they had.

Pat loved music; she took piano lessons as an empty nester. She always had music playing and would often embarrass her children by singing or whistling a tune while shopping.

Bob and Pat attended church all their lives but really got to know Jesus in the 1980’s. They became more involved with church and small groups and Bible studies. They went on mission trips to China, South America, and Africa. They hosted missionaries and those moving to America from foreign countries.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, and her sister, Eleanor. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Zipp, and brother, Neil Perkins; her 4 children, Tammie Timmons, Rebecca Terrill, Priscilla Timmons, and Dan Timmons; two granddaughters, Sarah Timmons and Loren Timmons.

Pat loved deeply and generously. We love and miss her but look forward to joining her in heaven.

Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to a charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
