Pearl Luceile Houk Schneider

d. March 20, 2021

Services for Pearl Luceile Houk Schneider, 99 of Lawrence, will be held 1:00 pm March 27 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Stull Cemetery in Stull, Kansas. She passed March 20, 2021 at her home. A light meal will be served at the Stull United Methodist Church after the burial.

Pearl was born April 26, 1921, the daughter of Frank William and Katherine Minnie Unger Houk. She attended school at Kanwaka Grade School and graduated in 1934. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1938.

She married Elmer D. Schneider on Oct. 6, 1940. Although they later divorced, they continued to be close friends and even frequently traveled together after their divorce. Pearl was very proud of the fact that she traveled to every state in the United States and every continent except Antarctica. Even into her late 90s, Pearl could recount details about her adventures around the world.

Pearl and Elmer owned and operated El Navajo Auto Court for eight years. Pearl also worked as a hostess cashier for Virginia Inn, Ramada Inn, Village Inn and the Holidome. She was an Avon representative for 16 years, which was a perfect fit given her outgoing nature. Pearl spent time as a manager of a restaurant in Kansas City, MO, and also owned and managed commercial property in Kansas City, MO for 34 years.

Pearl loved to crochet and cook for others. It brought her immense joy to host her family for holidays or even just a weekly get together. Pearl would make a batch of cookies for each of her grandchildren to take home and enough Jello to feed an army (or at least her growing grandsons). Even in 2020, on her last Christmas, Pearl had homemade gifts for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a giving, tireless spirit, and she was always tickled to have a visit from a loved one, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pearl was a member of many organizations. She still maintained a membership in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #309, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign War, Chapter 1696 of AARP, Retired Eagles Activity Club and Lawrence Area Business and Professional Women.
