Mrs. Phoebe (Johnson) Watkins passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas.  Graveside service and burial will be 9AM at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lawrence on November 11, 2010.

She was born December 19, 1916 in Richland, Kansas to Charles and Henretta O’Banion Smith Johnson.

Phoebe married Franklin Luther Watkins on June 16, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri.  He passed away on May 26, 1997.

She was a homemaker, Army Mother, and Life Member of the NAACP.

Survivors include two daughters, Sonja, and husband, Clarence Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; Barbara and husband, Joseph Sabol of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Mary L. Irving of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Njeri Shomari, Frankie (Frank) Davis of Washington, D.C., Sterling (Rose Ann) Johnson of Kyle, Texas, Christopher(Kimberly) Johnson of San Jose, California; eight great-grand-children, Delbart Hughes, Frankye Hughes, Franklin (Tenile) Davis, Malcolm Davis, Derek Johnson, Corbin Johnston, Jennifer and Jacqueline Nelson and four great-great-grandchildren, Khaury El-Amin, Nia Hughes, Damani Hughes, Christian Davis and two nieces, LaJean (Harvey) King and Joanne (Roland) Hurst both of Lawrence. Her grandson, Mark Johnson preceded her on December 27, 2006.

The family requests no flowers and suggests memorials in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of the Warren McElwain Mortuary.
