Funeral services for Raymond Charles Schimmel, 86, Lawrence, KS will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, KS. Burial will follow the services at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. He died on Friday, September 24, 2010 at Eudora Medicalodges.
He was born on May 7, 1924 in Aulville, MO, the son of William & Blanche Dabler Schimmel.
Mr. Schimmel has lived in Lawrence since 1929. He was a graduate of Vinland High School.
He formerly worked as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority where retired in 1995 after 13 years of service. Previously he had worked for many years as a retail milkman.
Mr. Schimmel was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Lawrence.
He was married to Mary Legan on November 8, 1967 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Rose Mary Schimmel of Lawrence, KS., Rhonda and her husband, Russell, of Topeka, KS; two sons, Randy of Lawrence, KS. and Ralph of Lecompton, KS.; one brothers, William E. Schimmel of Oak Ridge, TN; two grandchildren, Miranda and Katie Schimmel and one great grandchild, Nicholas.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Penn House, both of Lawrence and Lecompton United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
