Rebecca Ann “Becky” Lamoreaux Coan, 90, died on February 14, 2015, in Lawrence.

She was born December 30, 1923, in Waterville, Kansas to Iva Knudsen and Henry Lamoreaux. Becky graduated from Waterville High School in 1942 and Kansas State University in 1948. She taught school in Wellington, Kans. and studied French at the University of Kansas. Becky joins her husband of 45 years, Clark Coan, who died in 1995; their wedding was in Waterville August 12, 1950.

She volunteered for several organizations, including the Lawrence League of Women Voters and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. For several years in the late 1960s, Becky stood in a Peace Vigil Sunday mornings in downtown Lawrence to protest the Vietnam War. She was a lifelong learner, avid reader, attending lectures and taking classes at KU. She enjoyed classic music concerts, talking about politics and current events, speaking French, gardening, nature, genealogy, Great Britain, France, art and antiques. Becky traveled extensively with her husband and, after his death, with Elder Hostel. She even voyaged on the Queen Elizabeth I to Britain in 1950.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, the University Women’s Club, and more than one bridge club; a game she enjoyed playing until the last year of her long life. She gave generously to numerous causes, including the Nature Conservancy.

She is survived by sons Clark Henry Coan, Lawrence; Edward Coan, Overland Park; and Marc Coan, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and one of her two brothers, Marc Lamoreaux, 96, Waterville.
