Rian Paxton Russell Carlsten, 18, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on November 7, 2007, in Lawrence, Kansas, Rian possessed a quiet, loving spirit that brought light, energy, and joy into the world from the moment he arrived.
Rian’s childhood and education were rooted in the Maple Hill, Lawrence, and Perry-Lecompton communities. He began his school journey at Rossville Preschool before moving with his family to his parents’ hometown of Lawrence, where he attended Quail Run Elementary, Deerfield Elementary, West Middle School, and later Lawrence Free State High School. At the time of his passing, Rian was a senior at Perry-Lecompton High School. He had planned to enter the trades following graduation this coming May and intended to attend Washburn University before his time on earth came to an end.
A dedicated member of his family’s business, Lawrence Feed & Farm Supply, Rian grew from a quiet teenager into a confident and capable young man. His warm smile, friendly greeting of “How’s it goin’?”, and genuine care for customers made him a beloved presence at the store. In addition, Rian started his own mobile auto detailing business, RC Auto Detailing. With the occasional help of a good friend, he transformed many customers’ vehicles from filthy to fabulous. His strong work ethic and gentle demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Outside of work and school, Rian found joy in many pursuits. He loved riding motorcycles and spent countless hours lifting weights at the gym—expressions of both his adventurous spirit and dedication to personal growth. A fan of Pokémon and gaming, Rian also cherished time spent playing card games and wrestling with his brothers from a young age. He enjoyed chess and building intricate LEGO creations, showcasing his creativity, patience, and attention to detail.
Rian is lovingly remembered by his parents, Jason and Casey Carlsten; his brothers, Troy, Aedan, Liam, and David; his maternal grandparents, Roger and Betty Tuckel; and his paternal grandparents, Lance and Lisa Carlsten. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who deeply loved him. Rian’s family firmly believes that everyone whose life he touched will forever carry his quiet, quirky humor, thoughtfulness, unwavering love, and loyalty in their hearts.
The family is heartbroken by this immeasurable loss and eternally grateful for the love Rian brought into their lives. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire strength in the hearts he touched.
