Richard Steven Freeman

A Graveside Service for Richard Steven Freeman, 78, Lawrence, KS, is set for 11:00 am, Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Hesper Friends Cemetery in Eudora, KS. Richard passed away April 3, 2026, at his residence in Lawrence, KS.

Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas December 30, 1947, Richard S. Freeman graduated from Lawrence High in the class of 1965, and from KU in 1970 with a degree in Biochemistry.

He married Georgia Ann Michael on April 19, 1969, and they had two boys: Michael Wade Freeman and Clint Russell Freeman.

Rich was actively involved with Little League Baseball at DCABA for several years as a coach, concession manager and served as President of DCABA. Rich worked at the University of Kansas in the Biochemistry Department until his retirement in 1996 due to health concerns.

He remarried in 1995 to Laura Jones and fathered a third son Andrew Leslie Freeman.

Rich was actively involved in the local Lawrence Red Dogs running club and volunteered delivering bread to the homeless. He loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing as much as he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen E. Freeman and Marian Freeman, and two siblings, Glen Freeman, and a sister. Rich is survived by his three sons and two grandsons Mitchell Jacob Freeman and Jackson Michael Freeman, daughter-in-law, Shiloh May Freeman, and beloved brother, Jim Freeman.

He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Food Pantry at First Christian Church in Lawrence.
