Richard L. Morris

Funeral services for Richard L. Morris, 83, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church and burial will follow at Zion Missionary Baptist Cemetery in McAlester, OK. He died on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born on July 19, 1930 in Ardmore, OK, the son of Wood and Jane Baptiste Marris.

He moved to Lawrence in 1945 and was a student at Haskell Institute.

Mr. Morris was formerly employed as a Bakery Instructor at Haskell Indian Nations University. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Haskell Alumnae and had attended the Lawrence Indian Methodist Church.

He married Susie Jane Fisher in March 25, 1950 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria J. Morris, of Lawrence; a brother, Roscoe Marris, Englewood, CO; one half brother, Terry Marris, Ardmore, OK; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; and a son, Terry L. Morris.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Lawrence Indian Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
