Ricky “Rick” Evan Mcguire

Memorial services for Ricky “Rick” Evan McGuire, 76, Kansas City, KS will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora, KS. Rick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at his home.

Rick was born on August 5, 1945, in Parsons, KS to Bert Evan and Freda (Akins) McGuire, who preceded him in death. Rick graduated from Parsons High School in 1963. He joined the US Navy in 1967, where he served in Japan for 2 years on the USS Kitty Hawk. He proudly served his country until 1971. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Rick relocated to Manhattan, KS where he met and married his beautiful wife, Pamela Ann Slusher on March 22, 1975. Early in Rick’s career he worked as a mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental. Following a heart attack at age 35, Rick had a life re-evaluation and went back to school to earn an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science. For the last 20 years he worked as a Technology Technician for the Kansas City Kansas Public Library. He retired in 2015 at the age of 70.
Rick enjoyed taking his motorcycle out on the open road.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela (Slusher) McGuire of Kansas City, KS; sons Sean McGuire (Jennifer) of Webster Groves, MO, Chris McGuire (Angela) of Kansas City, KS, Adam McGuire of Sedalia, MO, and Calvin McGuire (Lorissa) of Olathe, KS; sisters Penny (Larry) Fry, Lawrence, KS, and Paula (Pat) Haley, Topeka KS; five grandchildren-Allison, Vivian, Cadence, Maddex, and Peri; one niece, two nephews, and one great nephew.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s name to National Alliance on Mental Illness and VITAS Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
