Robert Edward Cassity

Graveside services for Robert Edward Cassity, 82, Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence with full military honors. He passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at his home.

Robert was born January 8, 1933 in Wallace, MO the son of Frank W. and Eva P. (Bullard) Cassity.

He attended schools in Atchison graduating from Atchison High School in 1951.

In 1951 he joined the United States Marines for four years. He served in Korea with 1 ^st Marine Division during the Korean War. He received service ribbons for, National Defense, United Nations, Korean Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and Korean War Service Medal.

He worked for the Lawrence Police Department from 1955 until 1970. In 1970 he joined the Douglas County Sheriff Department where he worked until 1988 working for 33 years in law enforcement.

He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lawrence Lodge #2, and was a life member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 – American Legion in Lawrence.

He married Dorothy D. Watts September 5, 1951 in Atchison. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, William “Bill” (Nancy) Cassity, Baldwin City; and one daughter, Lisa Ann Enos, Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Robert Cassity, Jr. and Michael Cassity.

The family will greet friends from 1 – 2 p.m. one hour prior to the graveside on Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Douglas County VNA Hospice or Wreaths Across America Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
