Robert Lewis Hershiser

There will be a memorial service for Robert Lewis Hershiser at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, KS. The service will be held at 1:00 PM., Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Robert died February 14 ^th at the Baldwin Care home in Baldwin, KS.

Robert was born on May 26, 1937 in Ainsworth, NE to Earl and Leona Hershiser. He attended Ainsworth Public Schools and graduated in 1955 from Ainsworth High School, where he played high school football.

Robert was most notably self-employed as a carpenter in the Ainsworth area where he and his father worked together in the home construction industry.

He married Sherrill Eckhout in 1958 and the couple had two sons, Craig, born in 1959, and Brad, born in 1963. While still living in Nebraska, Robert continued to work in carpentry, but later took a job with Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company and later with MK Harris Construction. Robert and Sherrill moved to Greensburg, KS in 1986 to completely renovate and manage the Kansan Inn Motel, which they did for 15 years. In succeeding years, Robert returned to his self-employed roots as a carpenter and remodeler.

Robert took pride in his work and craftsmanship. Tools were his friends and he derived great pleasure from designing and building a new structure or from improving an existing structure. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, interests he passed on to both of his sons. Later in his life, he also developed an interest in golf.

Robert is survived by his wife, Sherrill, of Baldwin City. He is also survived by a son, Craig, and a daughter-in-law, Marcia, of Lawrence, KS and a son, Brad, of Lincoln, NE. Other survivors include his sister Rosemary and her husband, Dr. Jack Murphy and grandchildren Megan, Cameron and Will.
