Funeral services for Robert P. “Bob” Woodard, 80, Baldwin City, KS will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will be at a later date. Mr. Woodard died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Bob was born on June 23, 1931 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Hubert (Funny) and Laura Eilleen Macoubrie Woodard. He graduated in 1949 from Eudora High School in Eudora, KS. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953.
He went to work for Rusty’s IGA in 1949, left for three years of military service during the Korean War, and then returned to work at Rusty’s at their various Lawrence locations until he retired in March 1988, as the manager of the Produce Department at Rusty’s Hillcrest. During his retirement, he worked in grocery stores in Osawatomie, Eudora and Baldwin City, Kansas.
Bob was a member of the New Life Assembly of God in Baldwin City, the American Veterans Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
His hobbies included: fishing, bird-watching and KU basketball.
He married Shirley Jones on June 15, 1958 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Survivors include a daughter, Missi (Michelle D.) Lehr, of Kansas City, MO, three sons; William R. “Bill” Woodard, of Lawrence, KS, Robert E. “Bobby” Woodard (wife, Kendra), of Baldwin City, KS, and Matthew P. (wife, Youngha) Woodard, of Lawrence, KS. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: David Harper, Nicole Harper, Nathan Harper, Adam Lehr, Zachary Lehr, Brandon Woodard, Laura Lee, Max Woodard, and Caleb Woodard and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project or Heart of America Teen Challenge and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
