Roy Cropp

Celebration of life services for Roy K. Cropp, 87, Lawrence, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, KS.  A reception will follow from 2-4 p.m. in Brady Hall at the church. Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.  He died Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Lawrence.

Roy was born October 7, 1925, on a farm in Reading, KS, the son of Cason M. and Maude Alice (Dodd) Cropp, where his love of farming and agriculture began.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in October, 1945.  He entered the service with his twin brother.

Roy graduated from Kansas State University with his B.S. in Agriculture Education.  He later received his M.S. in Guidance Counseling from Emporia State University.

Roy initially taught for three years at Burlingame High School in Burlingame, KS.  He then worked for 36 years at Lawrence High School – 12 years as a vocational agriculture instructor and 24 years as a guidance counselor.  He retired in 1990 from USD 497. He loved Lawrence High and enjoyed seeing former students over the years.  He was also a long time administrator of the Lawrence Educator’s Credit Union which provided invaluable assistance to many teachers

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, the Lawrence Sertoma Club, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 of the American Legion, the K-State Alumni Association, and the Lawrence High School FFA.

Roy married Wilma Jean Cramer on November 25, 1945, in Reading, KS.  She preceded him in death on December 30, 2010 after 65 years of marriage.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn S. Montney (Gordon), Lawrence, KS; two sons, Craig S. Cropp (Michele), Damascus, MD; Clark A. Cropp (Linda), Lawrence, KS; a brother, Melvin D. Cropp, Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren (Grant Montney, Jeanmarie Montney Omland, Jacob Montney, Alison Cropp, Benjamin Cropp, Matthew Cropp, Melanie Cropp, Michael Cropp); five great-grandchildren (Kiley Montney, Camille Montney, Karley Montney, Lawson Montney, and Cason Omland), and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Kent Cropp, his twin brother, Ray Cropp, and his sister Maxine Weldon.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the First United Methodist Church, dorsey-Liberty Post # 14, American Legion, or the Lawrence Schools Foundation, which may be sent in care of the mortuary.
