Ruth Marilyn Mitchel

Memorial services for Ruth Marilyn Mitchel, 88, Lawrence, will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.  Ruth passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at LMH Health.

Ruth was born on May 2, 1935, in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of Ralph O. and Hazel G. (Kirk) Hammer.

She graduated from El Dorado High School and received her B.S from Kansas State University and M.S from Kansas University.  She was a special education teacher and worked in the Oskaloosa, Perry-Lecompton, and Lawrence public school systems until she retired.

She married Farrell D. Mitchel on August 18, 1957, in El Dorado, KS.

Survivors include her sister, Lois (Ron), daughter, Miriam (Paul), niece Paula (Jerry), nephews, Troy (April), David (Justin), and John (Theresa), niece, Michelle (David), and great nieces and great nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by parents Ralph and Hazel Hammer, her husband Farrell Mitchel and her son, Mark Mitchel.
