Ruth Stinson

Celebration of life services for Ruth Stinson, 88, Lawrence will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  A private inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, New Jersey at a later date.  She died February 3, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Ruth was born July 26, 1921 at home in Newark, New Jersey.  She was the daughter of Augustus and Amelia Schroeder Hallgring.  She was employed by an agent of Northwestern Life Insurance Company where she was a secretary for several years.  She married Donald Stinson July 25, 1945 in Newark, New Jersey. They moved to Belleville, New Jersy in 1951 where they made their home until his death on October 8, 1986.  In 1987 Ruth moved to Hiawatha, Kansas to be near family members.  She has lived in Hiawatha, Wathena, Anthony, Council Grove, Tonganoxie, and Lawrence, Kansas following the moves of her daughter and son-in-law who is a retired United Methodist pastor.

Ruth loved to read, sing in church choirs, and travel.  Her family was very important to her.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Joan Hughes and husband Stan of Lawrence, KS, a granddaughter, Traci Needham and husband Mike, of Lawrence, Nephews, Bob Carus and wife, Deb, of Clackamas, Oregon, Thomas Chrizanowski and wife, Jan, of Arlington, Texas, and Bill Chrizanowski and wife, Isabel, of Union, New Jersey.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Harriet Carus.
