Memorial services for Ryan L. Moore, M.D., 36, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 2p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date. He died on Friday, July 15, 2011 after a kayak accident on the Kansas River.
He was born on October 11, 1974 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Robert Lee and Ivy J. Reed Moore.
Dr. Moore was employed as a Hospitalist at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Topeka, KS. He had recently accepted an appointment to become Chief of Staff. He was also part-time staff at KU Medical Center as a Clinical Assistant Professor.
After graduating from High School in Sublette, KS, he received an Associates of Science degree from Garden City Community College and was a member of the National Honor Society. He then earned his B.S. in Organismal Biology from the University of Kansas. Dr. Moore finished his doctorate of Medicine and Residency at KU School of Medicine. He was board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. After his training, he worked with Emergency Medical Services at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, KS and in Emergency Medicine at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Moore was an Eagle Scout and volunteered as a staff physician at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimmeron, New Mexico through KU School of Medicine. He was involved in Medical Missions, was a member of the Sublette United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the American Medical Association.
He was married to Dr. Laura Menees Moore on May 15, 2007 in Antigua. Other survivors include a daughter, Nico Jeanne Moore, his parents, Robert and Ivy Moore of Sublette, KS, a sister, Christine Moore, of Amarillo, TX and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Reed, of Alma, NE.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the KU Endowment Association for the Ryan Moore Scholarship Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
