Inurnment will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Sarah, who moved to Seattle from Lawrence in 2015 with her partner, Kathryn Presley, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in an accident as Sarah hiked in Wallace Falls State Park, east of Seattle.

She was born February 24, 1988, in Lawrence, the daughter of Alan Zimmerman and Caroline Trowbridge. She attended Cordley Elementary School, where she met Kathryn, Central Junior High and Lawrence High School, where she was active in the theater department. For a year, she attended the University of Kansas. She then worked at Java Break, Hastings Books and Music and the Merc. After moving to Washington, Sarah enrolled in Edmonds Community College, where she was studying computer engineering, preparing to transfer to the University of Washington.

She loved hiking, cooking, playing the keyboard, traveling, reading, and she recently had taken up drawing. She was a thoughtful, fair-minded, loyal, bright, articulate and fiercely independent young woman who loved her family and friends, and especially Kathryn. Sarah, who had a caring spirit, also had a quick sense of humor and appreciated hearing a good story. For many years she was “the rose lady” at the St. Louis Renaissance Festival.

Survivors include her parents, Alan and Caroline of Lawrence; her partner, Kathryn of Seattle; her uncle, David Trowbridge of Wilson; her cousin, Erin Blocher of Kansas City, Mo., and Kathryn’s parents, Erin Nix, of Lawrence, and James Presley of Sedan. Sarah’s grandparents — Bob and Barbara Zimmerman, and Don and Josephine Trowbridge — and her aunt, Rebecca Blocher, preceded her in death.
