Sarah Jane Golden

A Visitation for Sarah Jane Golden, 98, Lawrence will be held from 6:00 ~ 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, Kansas. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2019 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas, followed by a 3:00 p.m. Celebration of Sarah Jane’s Life at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kansas. She passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence, Kansas.

Sarah was born January 18, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Lotta Mae Elliott.
Sarah Jane was educated at Denver University in Business School. At various times throughout her life she worked as a bookkeeper, secretary, typesetter, and was always a homemaker first. She was involved in her church, PTA, La Sertoma, No Name Club, PEO, and was an avid bridge player for most of her adult life. She traveled throughout the US and visited many countries around the world. Being with her family brought her the greatest joy and she enjoyed taking trips with them as well.

She married John Austin Golden on September 20, 1940 in Denver, Colorado and he preceded her in death on March 25, 2014.

Other survivors include her daughter, Nancy (John) Biddle, sister, Edith Arbogast, six grandchildren; Michael Golden, Christina Betzer, Andrew Golden, Timothy Golden, Kara Mastalski, Andrea Biddle and ten great-grandchildren.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Kathleen Golden, great-grandson, Ethyn Golden, and sister, Elva Perkins.

Sarah Jane and John lived at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Manor, as well as Hospice, for the loving and compassionate care they provided.

Memorials may be made in her name to The First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kansas or The Good Samaritan Fund at Presbyterian Manor and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
