A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11 am in South Park in Lawrence. The family requests everyone wear masks while in attendance of this service.

Schuyler Daryl Bailey, 60, Lawrence passed away Monday, April 27 in his home surrounded by loved ones.

Schuyler was born on January 30, 1960 in Sedalia, Missouri the son of James Stewart and Betty Gay.

He received his BS in Criminal Justice from Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State, where he married Karen Hoover on December 31, 1982.

He spent 30 years with the University of Kansas Police Department where he retired as a captain. He later worked part-time for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.

He enjoyed working with local youth and spent 25 years with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, children, Joshua (Kathleen) Bailey of Mission, KS; Christopher (Jennifer) Shobe of Kansas City, MO; Michael (Amanda) Escobedo of Little Rock, AK; his siblings, Deborah Fry of Sedalia, MO; LaDonna Emmerson, Lompoc, CA; Teretha Harris, Oklahoma City, OK; Joe Gay of Sedalia, MO; grandchildren, Quinten Shobe, Rebecca and Tyler Escobedo and Baby Bailey.

Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials in his name to The Camp Bromelsick Foundation and the American Cancer Society, and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
