Memorial services for Scott Thomas, 55, Lawrence, will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Scott passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at his home.
Scott was born on July 21, 1968 in Wichita, KS, the son of Paul Bashor Thomas and Ann Victoria Sheldon Thomas.
He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1986, where he was active in music and theater, and the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism in 1990.
Having a passion for helping care for those who needed care the most, Scott was an avid and passionate supporter of LGBTQ+ issues, Black Lives Matter and the rights of the marginalized and the oppressed. He worked for years at Community Living Opportunities, in homes for adults with developmental disabilities. He truly enjoyed his clients who he would fondly remember, years later.
He enjoyed singing and listening to music and had a beautiful baritone voice. Formerly a member of the University of Kansas Jazz Choir, San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and the Heartland Men’s Chorus of Kansas City – he was an asset to any choir.
Survivors include his mother Victoria Thomas (Roger Lambson, deceased), Shawnee, KS; his father, Paul (Kathleen) Thomas, Bella Vista, Arkansas; brother, Chris (Cindi) Thomas, Baldwin City, KS; aunt, Jan (Jim Sherman) Sheldon, Lawrence; stepfather, Donald (Paula) Hatcher, Lawrence; niece, Zoe Thomas; several cousins and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in Scott’s name to the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) or a charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
