Sherrill L. Catt, 86, Lawrence, KS, passed away June 6, 2026, at Brandon Woods in Lawrence, Kansas.

Sherry was born on April 11, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Roy D. and Ethelyn [Harp] Falwell, Augusta, Kansas. She attended grade school in Augusta and Lily Lake country school, outside Augusta.

She came to Augusta High in 1954. On New Year’s 1954-55, she and George Catt “discovered” each other at a dance party. They graduated from AHS in 1958 and enrolled at the University of Wichita. She graduated from WU, cum laude, in 1961. She later received a master’s degree in education at the University of Kansas.

Sherry and George were married on June 19, 1960, in Augusta and had almost 66 years of wedded bliss.

She is survived by her husband George Catt, her children Cristi Catt and her husband Jim Loutzenhiser, Tim Catt and his wife Mary Anne Catt and Carrie Catt and her husband Dustin Krone; her grandchildren Katy Loutzenhiser, Peter Loutzenhiser, Kendall Cabral, Hayden Krone, and Joshua Catt, along with one great grandchild, Emmy June Christo, and two step great grandsons, Elias Cabral and Santiago Cabral.

Sherry and George moved to Lawrence in Lawrence in 1963 when he went to work at the Lawrence Daily Journal World.

Sherry had an interesting career, beginning with teaching grade school 2 years in Wichita. In Lawrence she served as Resident Manager of Stouffer Place, 330 apartments for married KU students. She later became co-director, and later, sole director of the Chapter One Math Program for USD 497 in Lawrence. After many years she worked, briefly, for the State Department of Education in Topeka. Finally, she followed her love for children as a coordinator of volunteers for Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

Sherry was very active in the Lawrence community activities. She managed the arts and crafts booth area for 4th of July activities at Burcham Park for several years. She was always pleased when driving by the always-changing free-form sculpture in front of City Hall. She had served on the committee that chose this from a group of proposals. She joined efforts to save the Union Pacific Station in North Lawrence. She was active in Leadership Lawrence. She served as president of Phi Delta Kappa, math honorary.

Sherry was an artist, active for many years in Art in the Park, displaying and selling her oil and watercolor paintings.

Sherry loved to travel. Whether it be a canoe trip to the Ozarks, Chicago, Arizona, New England, Europe, or anywhere kids or grand kids were or wanted to be. She was ready! She and George were often accompanied by their close friend Suzy Hill.
