Sophia “Sophie” Beaman

Funeral services for Sophie I. Johanning Beaman, 93, Lawrence will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  Mrs. Beaman died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born on June 3, 1915 in Baldwin City, Kansas, the daughter of John William and Isabell A. Wrede Johanning.

She was a retired clerk at the Landis Davis Paint Store in Lawrence.  She retired in 1972.

She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Social Circle Club since 1937.

She married Clarence W. Beaman on March 14, 1937 in Baldwin City, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on January 16, 1996.

Survivors include two sons, LeRoy L. (wife, Dwan), Lawrence, and Ronald D. (wife, Kay), Leavenworth, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time at the church.
