Valentina “Corina” Bermudez

Memorial services for Valentina “Corina” Bermudez, 82, Lawrence, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Corina passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at her home surrounded by family and loved ones.

Corina was born on February 14, 1941 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Manuel and Mary (Jaimez) Mendoza.

She was a housewife and mother.  Corina loved children and pets.  She loved cooking and worked for many years at Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant in Lawrence.  She volunteered at the Penn House in Lawrence.

She married Israel Bermudez on August 1, 1959, in Lawrence.  He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her daughters, Julie (Robert) Lassen of McLouth, Rebecca (Dale) James of Lawrence, Lucinda (Dean Ohman) Bermudez of Lawrence, Tonya (Clark) Rials of Baldwin City, Stephanie (Steve) Freeman of Lecompton; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Isabel Vargas, Ernestina Guerrero, Jenny Mendoza, Esperanza Mendoza, Gloria Ming, Maria Ming, Rita Melendez, and Anita Coyote.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Rose Carmona; her brothers Richard Mendoza, Antonio Mendoza, Reuben Mendoza, Luis Mendoza, Robert Mendoza; and her grandson, Ryan Matthew Romero.

The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the mortuary.
