Vera M. Sparks

Memorial services for Vera Marie Sparks, 92, Lawrence, previously of St. Josephs, MO, will be held at a later date. Vera died May 24, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Springhill, KS.

Vera was born February 14, 1923, in Skidmore, MO, the daughter of Rudolph C. and Rachel S. (Morse) Michaelis.

She moved to St. Joseph, MO and was a hairdresser for 67 years. She was the owner of Shirley’s Beauty Shop. She was known for having her shop decorated with flowers and plants. In her spare time she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and watching baseball, especially the Royals.

She is survived by; daughter-in-law, Hilea Sparks, grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Sparks, great-grandchild, Haylee Sparks, two Sisters, Shirley Judy and Betty Wright and several nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by; her husband, Theodore Sparks, son, Theodore (Mickey) Sparks, three brothers, Ralph, Warren and Francis Michaelis, and three sisters, Mildred Martin, Virginia Breazile, and Selma Holsmbeck.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Ascera Care Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
