William C. Carter

William C. "W.C." Carter, 101, of Eudora, Kansas, passed away at home on June 3, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Eudora Church of Christ, 1532 Winchester Rd., Eudora, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Eudora City Cemetery.

W.C. was born November 18, 1924, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Walter C. and Ora Ethel (Lewis) Carter. He graduated from Paris High School in 1943 before serving as a U.S. Army medic during World War II. While home on furlough, he married his childhood sweetheart, Dorene Brewer, on March 15, 1944.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, W.C. became the first in his family to go to college. He earned degrees from Arkansas Tech and the University of Arkansas, and devoted his career to education as a band director and school administrator, including serving as principal of Eudora High School and assistant superintendent for the DeSoto school district.

W.C. considered his 71 years of marriage to Dorene to be a far greater accomplishment than any of his college degrees. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorene, and his great-grandson, Theo.

He is survived by his son, James (Susie) Carter of Wichita; daughters, Carol (Joe) Holmes of Halstead and Cynthia (Dave) Allen of Rochester, Minnesota; eight granddaughters: Lori Taylor, Sara (Jason) Dockery, Joanna (Joseph) Lacanlale, Megan (Daniel) McGraw, Debra (Casey) Allen, Melanie (Tastan) Kulmeshkenova, Danielle (Josh) Allen, and Michelle Allen; and 20 great-grandchildren.
