Funeral Service for William Lawrence “Larry” Mitchell, Sr., 87, Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 a.m. September 4, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Burial will be at 1: 30 p.m. on Friday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, Kansas.  He died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar, Lawrence.

He was born October 25, 1921, in Ashland, KY, the son of Charles and Lena (Sparks) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell graduated from Ashland High School.  He worked for Charles Bruning Co.  He worked at API Blue Print Co from 1964 until 1975.  Later he owned C & E Art and Engineering Service; retiring in 1988.  Mr. Mitchell was a Deacon of the Southern Baptist Church.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lenexa, KS.  Mr. Mitchell was an avid football/sports fan.

He married Zelma Katherine (Skirvin) Ross on October 4, 1941, in Ashland, KY.  She preceded him in death on September 30, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Rose Mitchell, Sanford, NC; two sons, Charles Floyd and wife, Sharlene, Atlanta, GA; William ”Bill” Lawrence, Jr., and wife, Ruth A. Shadel, Lawrence, KS, and a brother Charles Mitchell, Billa Hills, KY; a sister, Patricia Kern and husband, Richard, Homosassa, FL; four grandchildren, Andrew, Kathy, Alyssa, and Angela; and five great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to American Diabetes Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
