Graveside services for William Mason Nelson, 85, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
William was born March 10, 1929 in Lawrence, KS the son of Walter and Effie (Spotzer) Nelson.
William served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a Staff Sargent.
He received his BA from the University of Kansas.
He was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Lawrence.
He was a manager and supervisor at Armco Steel until he retired in 1977.
Survivors include one son, Steven E. (Denise) Nelson, Lawrence; one daughter, Jonell M. Mitchell, Atlanta, GA; and two grandchildren, Werner Nelson and Erin Mitchell.
The family suggests memorial in his name to the University of Kansas – Cancer Research and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
